Desmond Tutu.

On 7 October 1931, Desmond Mpilo Tutu was born in Klerksdorp, Union of South Africa. He attended St. Martin’s School and later studied at the University of South Africa for a teaching diploma. He continued his theological education at King’s College London, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in theology.

Desmond Tutu appeared as himself on The Daily Show 1996, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson 2005, and documentaries such as Palme 2012 and Cold Case Hammarskjöld 2019. He also appeared in I Am 2011 and Fire in the Blood 2013. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Desmond Tutu married Nomalizo Leah Shenxane. They had one child, Mpho Andrea Tutu. He was often referred to as Archbishop Desmond Tutu or Bishop Desmond Tutu. He died in Cape Town on 26 December 2021 at the age of 90.

Desmond Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984, the Templeton Prize, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He also received over 30 honorary doctorates from Harvard, Cambridge, Columbia, and others. His media appearances on The Daily Show and Cold Case Hammarskjöld kept his presence in popular culture.
