Filipino writer and political martyr Benigno 'Ninoy' Aquino Jr.'s assassination on August 21, 1983, at Manila International Airport sparked the People Power Revolution. He married Corazon Aquino in 1954; she later became president of the Philippines. His son Benigno Aquino III also served as president. The Philippine Legion of Honor, Quezon Service Cross, and a national holiday honor him.
