Ursula von der Leyen became President of the European Commission in 2019. She previously served as Germany's Minister of Defence from 2013 to 2019 and as Minister of Labour and Social Affairs from 2009 to 2013. She holds a doctorate in medicine and has seven children. She was born in Brussels in 1958.
