Playing Lola Lola in The Blue Angel 1930 launched Marlene Dietrich's career; she became one of Hollywood's highest-paid actresses. She made a comeback in Destry Rides Again 1939 opposite James Stewart and earned acclaim in Witness for the Prosecution 1957. Dietrich toured for the Allied war effort, receiving the Medal of Freedom in 1947. She spent her final years in seclusion in Paris.
