Moshe Dayan
Israel
Moshe Dayan lost his left eye in 1941 while fighting in Lebanon, a wound that became his trademark. He served as Israel's chief of staff from 1953-1958, then as defense minister from 1967-1973, orchestrating the decisive Six-Day War. After resigning amid criticism over the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Dayan returned as foreign minister from 1977-1979 to help negotiate peace with Egypt.
