Mia Couto
Mia Couto, born in 1955 in Beira, Mozambique, is a writer and poet whose novel Terra Sonâmbula won the NOMA African Award and was named one of the 12 best books of the 20th century by the Africa Books Collective. He also won the Camões Prize, the Neustadt International Prize for Literature, and other awards. Couto worked as a journalist and taught biology at Eduardo Mondlane University, and his works blend magical realism with Mozambican history.
