Humayun Ahmed published his first book Nondito Noroke in 1972, launching a career that made him a leading writer in Bangladesh. He created the characters Himu and Misir Ali and directed the TV series Eishob Dinratri 1985 and films including Aguner Poroshmoni 1994. He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award and the Ekushey Padak.
