Muammar Gaddafi
Muammar Gaddafi overthrew King Idris in a 1969 coup and established a socialist state. He nationalized oil companies, supported terrorist groups, and ruled for 42 years until the 2011 Arab Spring uprising led to his capture and execution in Sirte. His death ended a regime marked by both domestic repression and international conflict.
