Edward G. Robinson, born Emanuel Goldenberg in Bucharest in 1893, set the standard for movie gangsters with his role as Rico Bandello in Little Caesar 1931. Over a 50-year career spanning stage, silent films, radio, and television, he starred in Double Indemnity 1944 and The Ten Commandments 1956. In 1973, he received a posthumous Academy Honorary Award for lifetime achievement.
