Marcello Mastroianni shot to international fame in 1960 as the lead in Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita, which spawned his 'Latin Lover' persona. He won two Cannes Best Actor awards and earned three Oscar nominations for Best Actor, a record for foreign-language films. He also starred in Fellini's 8½ 1963 and Antonioni's La Notte 1961. He died of pancreatic cancer in Paris in 1996 at age 72.
