Bob Marley
Bob Marley, born Robert Nesta Marley in 1945, formed the Wailers in 1963 and brought reggae to a global audience. Time magazine named his 1977 album Exodus the greatest album of the 20th century. He survived an assassination attempt in 1976 but died of metastatic melanoma in 1981 at age 36.
