Frida Kahlo
Mexico
Frida Kahlo 1907-1954 was a Mexican painter whose self-portraits explore identity and pain. She started painting after a bus accident in 1925 that left her with lifelong injuries. She married muralist Diego Rivera in 1929 and had affairs with both men and women, including Leon Trotsky. In 2001, the U.S. Postal Service issued a stamp in her honor.
