Peter Paul Rubens's Massacre of the Innocents 1611 set a record at Sotheby's in 2002, selling for $76.2 million. As the leading Flemish Baroque artist, he produced altarpieces, portraits, and history paintings. He served as a diplomat for Marie de Medici in 1621 and taught Anthony van Dyck. Rubens died in 1640 from gout complications.
