Kenneth Kaunda

Kenneth Kaunda led Zambia to independence in 1964 and served as its first president until 1991. The youngest of eight children born at Lubwa Mission in 1924, he became a prominent figure in African liberation movements. His 27-year presidency saw Zambia navigate Cold War pressures and support anti-colonial struggles. Kaunda died in 2021 at 97.
