Prince Heinrich Albert Wilhelm von Preußen, also known as Prince Heinrich of Prussia, was a prominent member of the House of Hohenzollern and a key figure in Germany’s naval and political landscape during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born on August 14, 1862, in Berlin to Emperor Frederick III and Princess Royal Victoria of Prussia, Heinrich was the seventh child and fourth son among eight siblings.

As a member of one of Europe’s most influential royal families, Heinrich’s early life was steeped in tradition and high politics. He received his education at the German Imperial Naval Academy, where he developed a strong foundation for his future career as a naval officer. His dedication to the navy soon became evident when he joined the German Imperial Navy upon graduation.

Prince Heinrich’s rise through the ranks was marked by significant achievements and milestones. In 1892, he commanded the cruiser SMS Hertha on its maiden voyage from Germany to China, a mission that underscored his growing influence in naval affairs. His career continued to flourish with appointments to high-profile roles within the military establishment.

While Heinrich’s professional life was richly detailed and marked by numerous accomplishments, his personal life remained relatively private compared to some of his contemporaries. He never married but had a long-term relationship with Julie Salinger, who became an important figure in his later years. Together they raised two sons: Prince Waldemar and Prince Sigismund.

Prince Heinrich’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the complex tapestry of German political history. His contributions to naval strategy and policy were notable, reflecting both the strengths and challenges faced by Germany during a period of rapid technological and social change. He passed away on April 20, 1929, in Doorn, Netherlands, after battling esophageal cancer.
