Yves Montand, born Ivo Livi in 1921, escaped fascist Italy with his family and built a career as a singer in Parisian music halls before moving into film. His most famous roles include The Wages of Fear 1953, Z 1969, and Jean de Florette 1986. He married actress Simone Signoret and had a well-publicized affair with Marilyn Monroe. He died of a heart attack in 1991 at age 70.
