Boris Vian.

After the 1929 stock market crash, Boris Vian’s father Paul leased their large house and moved the family into a smaller one on the same property in Ville d’Avray. There, the young Boris — born March 10, 1920 — lived next door to violinist Yehudi Menuhin. His grandfather Henri Vian ran a bronze art atelier and created works for Edmond Rostand, bringing the family into contact with intellectual circles. He attended Lycée Condorcet and Lycée Hoche before studying engineering at École Centrale Paris.

Under the pseudonym Vernon Sullivan, Boris Vian published the novel J’irai cracher sur vos tombes, adapted into a film in 1959. On screen, he played the Cardinal in The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1956 and Prévan in Dangerous Love Affairs 1959. He acted in A Girl in a Pocket 1957 and Le Bel ÂGe 1960. As a jazz trumpeter and record producer, Vian was a central figure among young post-war French intellectuals.

On July 3, 1941, Boris Vian married Michelle Vian; they divorced on January 20, 1953. He married Ursula Kubler on February 8, 1954, and they remained together until his death. He had two children: Patrick Vian and Carole Vian. In 1944, Paul Vian, his father, was killed by bandits in their home. The family subsequently sold the property.

Boris Vian received the Ordre de la Grande Gidouille for his contributions. His novel J’irai cracher sur vos tombes is a cult classic. He died during a preview of its film adaptation, a death that made him a tragic figure in French culture. His legacy rests on his range as a writer, actor, jazz trumpeter, and record producer.
