Raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, after his birth in Manhasset, New York, on November 9, 1970, Chris Jericho grew up with a competitive edge from his father, hockey player Ted Irvine. He attended Westwood Collegiate and Red River College Polytechnic. In 1990, he began training at the Hart Family Dungeon in Calgary, one of only four from a class of 18 to finish the program.
Debuting in 1990 in Calgary, Jericho wrestled for Stampede Wrestling and ECW before arriving in WCW in August 1996. He won the WCW Cruiserweight Title five times and turned heel at the end of 1997, solidifying his persona. In 1999, he debuted in WWE with a memorable millennium-countdown segment.
