Early life

Born on February 6, 1979, in Moldova to Ludmila Bălan and Mihai Balan, he showed musical talent early, singing and playing across genres. That exposure to diverse styles influenced his later work. In 1999, he co-founded the eurodance trio O-Zone.

Career

In 1999, Dan Balan co-founded O-Zone, serving as frontman and lead songwriter. The group’s 2004 single Dragostea Din Tei became a global hit, reaching number one in over 30 countries and selling over 12 million copies. Their album DiscOzone 2004 sold 3.5 million copies. He then moved to Los Angeles to work with producer Jack Joseph Puig on his solo debut. He also adopted the alias Crazy Loop, releasing successful singles. In 2010, he released Chica Bomb, directed by Hype Williams, marking a mature direction.
