Gregg Allman.

Gregg Allman was born on December 8, 1947 in Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up with his older brother Duane, who later co-founded the Allman Brothers Band with him. He attended Seabreeze High School and Castle Heights Military Academy. His first band, formed with Duane, was called the Allman Joys.

Gregg Allman co-founded the Allman Brothers Band in 1969 with his brother Duane. The band’s 1973 single Ramblin Man’ peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. His music appeared in soundtracks for films like Walking Tall 2004 and Jack Reacher 2012, and TV series True Detective 2014. He also acted in the film Rush 1991 as Gaines, a role he performed almost entirely without dialogue. The Allman Brothers Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.

Gregg Allman married seven times: Shelley Winters 1971–1972, Janice Blair 1973–1974, Cher 1975–1979, Julie Bindas 1979–1984, Miranda Stevens 1989–1994, Stacey Fountain 2001–2008, and Shannon Williams 2017 until his death. He had five children: Michael Sean Allman born 1966, Devon Allman born 1972, Elijah Blue Allman born 1976 with Cher, Delilah Island Allman born 1980, and Layla Brooklyn Allman born 1993. His son Elijah fronts the band Deadsy. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson to cure the blues and was treated for Hepatitis C in March 2008.

The Allman Brothers Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Rolling Stone ranked them the 52nd Greatest Rock n Roll Artists of all time. He received the Americana Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance. His music continues to be featured in film and television. He was a pioneering Southern rock musician and a master of the Hammond B-3 organ.
