Early life
At eighteen, Philippe Labro left France to study at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, then traveled across the United States. Born on 27 August 1936 in Montauban, Tarn-et-Garonne, France, his parents Henriette and Jean François Labro were later recognized as Righteous Among the Nations for hiding members of the Bernart family during World War II. He returned to Europe and became a reporter. During the Algerian War from 1960 to 1962, he served in the military.
