Totò
Italy
Totò, born in Naples in 1898, became Italy's most popular comic actor, known for his surreal humor and memorable roles in films like Big Deal on Madonna Street 1958 and The Gold of Naples 1954. He began his career in commedia dell'arte and later gained acclaim as a poet and songwriter, penning the classic Malafemmena. Despite his comedic fame, Totò suffered personal tragedies, including the suicide of a lover and his own near-blindness later in life.
