Born on June 29, 1926, in Kuwait City, Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah was the son of Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. He grew up with four brothers: Sabah, Nawaf, Mishal, and Fahad Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah. His father was a key figure in the ruling dynasty.

Career

Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah ruled as Emir of Kuwait until his death in 2006. During his rule, he received more than 20 state decorations from nations including the United Kingdom, Japan, and Egypt. Among these awards were the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath and the Collar of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum. He also held the Order of Mubarak the Great, the Order of Kuwait, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.

Personal life

Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah had two sons: Mubarak Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah and Salem Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah. After his death, his half-brother Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah succeeded him, after a brief nine-day reign by Sheikh Sad al-Abd Allah al-Salim al-Sabah.
