Early life

Geri Halliwell did not celebrate birthdays or Christmas as a child; her mother was a Jehovah’s Witness. She was born on August 6, 1972, in Watford, Hertfordshire, England. She attended Callowland Infant School and later Watford Grammar School for Girls and The Camden School for Girls. Her father, Laurence Halliwell, was 50 when she was born. He died of a heart attack in 1993 when she was 21. Before fame, she worked as a cage go-go dancer in a Majorca disco to pay rent.

Career

Geri Halliwell Horner attracted international attention in 1996 as Ginger Spice in the Spice Girls. Their debut single Wannabe hit #1 in 37 countries. At the 1997 Brit Awards, she wore a Union Jack dress that became a symbol. She left the group in 1998, citing creative differences, and launched a solo career with the #1 single Look at Me. In 1999, she auditioned for the Bond film The World Is Not Enough but lost the role to Denise Richards. She later released two solo albums and wrote a children’s book series Ugenia Lavender.

Personal life

Halliwell dated Russell Brand in 2012. She married Formula One boss Christian Horner on May 15, 2015, at St. Mary’s Church in Woburn, Bedfordshire. She has a daughter, Bluebell Madonna Halliwell, born 2006, with ex-boyfriend Sacha Gervasi, and a son, Montage George Hector Horner, born 2017, with Horner. She is stepmother to Horner’s daughter Olivia, born 2013. Her close friend Victoria Beckham is godmother to Bluebell.
