Early life

Thalía was born on August 26, 1971, in Mexico City, the youngest of five children of Ernesto Sodi Pallares and Yolanda Miranda Mange. Her father died when she was five years old. She began taking ballet classes at the National Conservatory of Music of Mexico at age four, and appeared in her first television commercial at age one. She performed in Timbiriche with Paulina Rubio before launching her solo career.

Career

Thalía’s breakout came in the early 1990s with a series of telenovelas: María Mercedes 1992, Marimar 1994, and María La Del Barrio 1995. These roles made her a household name across Latin America and aired in over 180 countries. As a recording artist, she released albums like El Sexto Sentido 2005, Primera Fila 2009 which sold over 700,000 copies in Mexico, and Habítame Siempre 2012 featuring duets with Robbie Williams, Michael Bublé, and Prince Royce. She has collaborated with Tony Bennett, Laura Pausini, and Maluma, among others. In 2013, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She has won five Billboard Latin Music Awards and been nominated for seven Latin Grammys.

She has two children: Sabrina Sakaë Mottola Sodi and Matthew Alejandro Mottola Sodi, as well as two stepchildren from Mottola’s previous marriage, Michael Paul Mottola and Sarah Lisa Mottola.
