Vincent Cassel’s parents divorced in 1980 when he was a teenager. Born in Paris on November 23, 1966, to actor Jean-Pierre Cassel and journalist Sabine Cassel, he grew up around film sets and newsrooms. At 15, he decided to become an actor; at 17, he entered circus school before moving into film and television. His older brother Rockin’ Squat, founding member of rap group Assassin, brought hip-hop culture into Vincent’s life early.

1995’s La Haine was Vincent Cassel’s breakout — a raw portrayal of suburban France. He followed with The Crimson Rivers 2000 opposite Jean Reno, and his English-language debut came in Elizabeth 1998. Films like Irreversible 2002 and Brotherhood of the Wolf 2001 showed his range. The role of François Toulour in Ocean’s Twelve 2004 brought him international recognition, reprised in Ocean’s Thirteen 2007. He later played Thomas Leroy in Black Swan 2010 and Serac in Westworld 2020.

Vincent Cassel married Monica Bellucci in 1999; they had two daughters, Deva born 2004 in Rome and Léonie born 2010 in Rome. The couple separated in 2013. He married model Tina Kunakey in 2018, and their daughter Amazonie arrived in 2019. In 2025, at age 58, he became a father for the fourth time — girlfriend Nara Baptista gave birth to son Caetano. Cassel keeps residences in Paris and London.

Vincent Cassel won the César Award for Best Actor and became a Knight of the National Order of Merit. La Haine remains a touchstone in French cinema. His physical dedication — capoeira and Wing Chun training — influenced action roles. Cassel worked in both French and English-language film, with parts in Black Swan and the Ocean’s series.
