Josef Mengele, the Nazi doctor nicknamed Angel of Death, conducted medical experiments on Auschwitz inmates, especially on identical twins. He fled to South America and died in Brazil in 1979 from a stroke while swimming. He earned the nickname Angel of Death for his all-white clothing and his role deciding which prisoners went to the gas chambers.
