On November 2015, the diary was subject of controversy after The Anne Frank Foundation, owner of The Diary of Anne Frank’s copyrights, claiming that it had been written by Anne and her father Otto Frank as co-author. The Foundation was accused for trying to retain the rights of the diary, which would have expired in 2016 on the 70th anniversary of Anne’s death. Otto died in 1980, which would mean that the Foundation would retain the copyright until 2050.
