Early life

Growing up as the daughter of actors Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, Jamie Lee Curtis was surrounded by Hollywood glamour from birth in Los Angeles in 1958. She attended private schools including Choate Rosemary Hall, graduating in 1976. She briefly attended the University of the Pacific before choosing acting. She had considered becoming a police officer until she won the role of Laurie Strode in Halloween in 1978.

Career

Jamie Lee Curtis won the role of Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s Halloween in 1978, a low-budget horror film that became a classic and established her as the Scream Queen. She followed with comedic roles in Trading Places opposite Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd in 1983, and in A Fish Called Wanda with John Cleese in 1988. She moved to action in James Cameron’s True Lies in 1994, earning a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. She repeated her famous role in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later in 1998 and returned to the franchise in Halloween in 2018 and Halloween Ends in 2022. In 2022, she played Deirdre Beaubeirdre in Everything Everywhere All at Once, winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Jamie Lee Curtis married actor and writer Christopher Guest on December 18, 1984. They adopted two daughters: Annie, born in December 1986, and Ruby, born in March 1996. She secretly battled a Vicodin addiction from 1989 to 1999, which she overcame after attending her first recovery meeting. She holds a US patent for a diaper with a wipe pocket. She lives with her family in Santa Monica, California, and Ketchum, Idaho.
