At age four, Brandy Rayna Norwood decided she wanted to be a professional singer. She was born on February 11, 1979 in McComb, Mississippi, and released her first single at age 11. Her mother, Sonja Norwood, left her job at H&R Block to manage Brandy’s career. She attended Hollywood High School and later Pepperdine University but dropped out due to a busy schedule.
Brandy’s self-titled debut album dropped in 1994 and spawned the hit I Wanna Be Down. In 1996 she began starring as Moesha Mitchell on the UPN sitcom Moesha, which ran for six seasons.
