Early life

At age 12, Désirée Nosbusch began hosting a radio show on Radio Luxembourg on July 29, 1977. Two years later, she became the first youth television host on German network ZDF. Born on January 14, 1965, in Esch/Alzette, Luxembourg, to an Italian mother and a Luxembourgish father, she attended Lycée Hubert Clément. Her early success on air led to acting opportunities, and she studied at the HB Studio in New York under Uta Hagen and Herbert Berghof from 1981 to 1984.

Career

Désirée Nosbusch made her acting debut in 1981 in the feature film Nach Mitternacht, an adaptation of Irmgard Keun’s novel. In 1986, the Taviani Brothers cast her as Mabel in Good Morning Babylon, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1987, co-starring Greta Scacchi and Joaquim de Almeida. She has since appeared in over 60 films internationally, including the ARD-Degeto series The Irish Crime Story since 2018. In 2019, she won the Grimme Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Christelle LeBlanc in the miniseries Bad Banks, directed by Christian Schwochow. She also studied directing at UCLA from 1998 to 2000 and directed the short film Ice Cream Sunday starring Tippi Hedren, which won Gold Awards at the WorldFest Houston and Fargo Film Festival. In 2023, she wrapped her directorial feature film debut, an adaptation of the play Gift/Poison by Lot Vekemans, starring Tim Roth and Trine Dyrholm.

Personal life

Désirée Nosbusch has been married to Tom Bierbaumer and to Harald Kloser. With Kloser, she has two children: a son, Lennon Noah born 1995, and a daughter, Luka Teresa born 1998. She resides in both Los Angeles and Luxembourg. Fluent in German, English, French, Italian, and Luxembourgish, she often works across multiple countries and languages.
