BIOGRAPHY

Goldie Hawn — early life, career, personal life, and legacy.

Early life

At age ten, Goldie Hawn danced in the chorus of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo production of The Nutcracker. She was born November 21, 1945 in Washington, D.C., and raised in Takoma Park, Maryland, by her mother Laura, who owned a dance school, and her father Rut, a band musician. By age 19 she was running her own ballet school after leaving American University, where she majored in drama, having begun ballet and tap lessons at age three.

Career

Goldie Hawn made her feature film debut in 1968’s The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band as a giggling dancer. Her breakout role came in 1969 opposite Walter Matthau and Ingrid Bergman in Cactus Flower, earning her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She followed with successes like There’s a Girl in My Soup 1970, Shampoo 1975, and Private Benjamin 1980, which she also produced. In 1987 she starred with boyfriend Kurt Russell in Overboard, and later appeared in Death Becomes Her 1992 and The First Wives Club 1996. She also starred in the Woody Allen film Everyone Says I Love You 1996.

Personal life

Goldie Hawn has been married twice: to dancer/director Gus Trikonis from 1969 to 1973, and to musician Bill Hudson from 1976 to 1980. She has three children: son Oliver Hudson born 1976 and daughter Kate Hudson born 1979 with Hudson, and son Wyatt Russell born 1986 with longtime partner Kurt Russell. Since 1983 she has been in a relationship with Russell, making them Hollywood’s longest-lasting unmarried couple. She is also a de facto stepmother to Russell’s son Boston.
