Early life

On 12 August 1954, François Gérard Georges Nicolas Hollande was born in Rouen, Seine-Inférieure, now Seine-Maritime in Normandy, to Nicole Tribert and Georges Hollande. He grew up in a family that valued education, attending Jean-Baptiste-de-La-Salle de Rouen School and later Lycée Pasteur for secondary studies. Hollande then pursued higher education at Panthéon-Assas University Paris, followed by Sciences Po, HEC Paris, and finally the prestigious École nationale d’administration. This rigorous academic path set the stage for his future in politics.

Career

François Hollande began his political career as a member of the Socialist Party, becoming its First Secretary from 1997 to 2008. He also served as Mayor of Tulle from 2001 to 2008. On 6 May 2012, Hollande was elected President of France, defeating Nicolas Sarkozy, and held office from 15 May 2012 to 14 May 2017. After leaving the presidency, he turned to acting, making cameo appearances in documentary films such as November 2022 and November 13: Attack on Paris 2018. He also voiced a character in the animated film Silex and the City le film 2024.

Personal life

François Hollande has four children: Thomas born 1986, Clémence born 1987, Julien born 1989, and Flora born 1992, from his longtime partnership with Ségolène Royal, which began in the late 1970s. The couple split in 2007. He married actress Julie Gayet on 4 June 2022. Hollande’s brother is Philippe Hollande.
