Glenn Frey — early life, career, personal life, and legacy.

Early life

Glenn Lewis Frey was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 6, 1948. In high school, he earned the nickname Teen King. He attended Dondero High School and Royal Oak High School and later studied at Oakland Community College.

Career

Frey co-founded the Eagles alongside Don Henley, one of only two original members. The band achieved massive success, and Frey co-wrote classics such as Take It to the Limit. In 1998, the Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Frey received the Kennedy Center Honors. He acted in the TV series Miami Vice as Jimmy Cole in 1984 and in the film Jerry Maguire as Dennis Wilburn in 1996. He starred in the short-lived TV series South of Sunset in 1993, which was canceled after one episode.

Personal life

Frey married Janie Beggs in 1983; they divorced in 1988. On June 30, 1990, he married Cindy Frey, with whom he had a daughter, Taylor Marie Frey. Frey suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis, and died on January 18, 2016, in New York City from complications of those conditions.

Legacy

Frey co-founded the Eagles, one of the best-selling bands in history. He earned induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 as an Eagles member, and into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2000. He received the Kennedy Center Honors. His performance of Take It to the Limit became a staple of later Eagles concerts. His acting roles in Jerry Maguire and Miami Vice contributed to his lasting fame. After his death, his family received his ashes.
