BIOGRAPHY

Rob Schneider — early life, career, personal life, and legacy.

Early life

San Francisco native Rob Schneider was born October 31, 1963, to Pilar, a former elementary school teacher and school board member, and Marvin, a real-estate broker. His father was Jewish and his mother, a Filipina Catholic, gave him a multicultural upbringing. He grew up in the San Francisco suburb of Pacifica, the youngest of five children. Monty Python, Richard Pryor, and Peter Sellers inspired him; he began doing stand-up comedy while attending San Francisco State University, honing his act by opening for big names at local clubs.

Career

Schneider’s break came in 1990 when Saturday Night Live producer Lorne Michaels saw him on HBO’s 13th Annual Young Comedians Special and hired him as a writer. He later became a cast member, known for his impersonations and recurring characters. After leaving SNL in 1994, he moved to film, starring in Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo 1999, which became a cult hit. He followed with The Animal 2001, The Hot Chick 2002, and Grown Ups 2010, often collaborating with close friend Adam Sandler. Schneider also voiced characters in animated projects and made cameo appearances on shows like Seinfeld.

Personal life

Schneider has been married three times. His first marriage to London King produced daughter Elle King, born in 1989, who became a successful singer. He married Patricia Maya Schneider in 2011, and they have two daughters: Miranda born 2012 and Madeline born 2016. A registered Republican, Schneider endorsed Donald Trump for president in 2024. He is a passionate San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan and lives in a Nob Hill apartment filled with 1950s rattan furniture and Hawaiian shirts.

Legacy

Rob Schneider’s tenure on Saturday Night Live and leading roles in 1990s and 2000s comedies define his career. His catchphrase You can do it became a pop culture staple after appearing in The Offspring’s song Original Prankster. Despite critical mixed reception, Schneider’s films have developed a loyal fan base. His feud with critic Roger Ebert, which ended with a heartfelt gesture, highlighted his character. He remains a recognizable figure in comedy, with a legacy tied to his partnership with Adam Sandler and his memorable SNL characters.

Michael is the last person to read a profile before it goes live, which makes him the one who catches what everyone else missed. 5 years as a copy editor has given him a sharp sense for what's off. A wrong year, a vague credit, a sentence that almost makes sense but doesn't quite. He's especially thorough with filmographies. He'll tell you that's where most of the errors hide. He's right.
