Early life

In Barranquilla, Colombia, Sofía Vergara was one of six children. Her mother Margarita Vergara Dávila de Vergara managed the household, and her father Julio Enrique Vergara Robayo worked as a cattle supplier. She attended Marymount International School Barranquilla, a private bilingual school, then studied pre-dentistry at the National University of Colombia. But a photographer spotted her at the beach at age 23, launching her into modeling and television.

Career

Sofía Vergara first appeared on television co-hosting the travel series Fuera de serie from 1995 to 1998. Her film debut came in Big Trouble 2002. In 2009, she took on the role of Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on Modern Family, which earned her four Emmy nominations from 2010 to 2013. Forbes ranked her the highest-earning woman on American television in 2012, with earnings of $19 million. She won a Screen Actors Guild Award and an NAACP Image Award. In 2015, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She also appeared in films like Hot Pursuit and voiced characters on The Simpsons and Family Guy. Before Modern Family, she watched the Spanish-dubbed version of Married… with Children starring Ed O’Neill and later discovered he spoke no Spanish.

Sofía Vergara married Joe Gonzalez in 1991, divorcing in 1993. She married actor Joe Manganiello in 2015; they separated in 2024.
