In 1950, at age 16, he won an ORF composer contest with the song Je t’aime, pushing him onto a music career path.

Career

Over his career, he composed more than 900 songs, including classics like Griechischer Wein, Mit 66 Jahren, and Ich war noch niemals in New York. In 1992, he performed before 220,000 people in Vienna, one of the largest concert audiences in Europe.

Jürgens also acted in films and TV series, appearing as himself on popular shows such as Wetten, Dass..? and Die Harald Schmidt Show. In 2007, the musical Ich war noch niemals in New York premiered in Hamburg, featuring his songs woven into a narrative similar to Mamma Mia!.

Personal life

Udo Jürgens married Panja Jürgens in 1964; the couple divorced in 1989. He later married Corinna Reinhold in 1999, but they separated in 2006. He had four children: John Jürgens an actor, Jenny Jürgens, and two daughters from other relationships, Sonja Jürgens born 1966 and Gloria Burda born 1994.
