Burt Reynolds, who died in 2018, was the top box-office star for five consecutive years from 1978 to 1982. He earned an Academy Award nomination for his role in Boogie Nights 1997 and won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Evening Shade 1990. He is best known for Deliverance 1972 and Smokey and the Bandit 1977, but also faced financial troubles and personal challenges throughout his career.
