Rudolf Hess

Rudolf Walter Richard Hess 1894–1987 served as Deputy Führer to Adolf Hitler from 1933 until 1941. On May 10, 1941, he flew solo to Scotland in an unauthorized peace attempt, leading to his arrest. At the Nuremberg trials in 1946, he was convicted of conspiracy and crimes against peace and sentenced to life imprisonment. From 1966 until his suicide in 1987, he was Spandau Prison's only inmate.
