On February 9, 1959, Patience Dabany and Omar Bongo had a son, Ali Bongo Ondimba. His father later became President of Gabon. He studied at the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne.

Ali Bongo Ondimba succeeded his father Omar Bongo as President of Gabon in 2009. A coup deposed him on 30 August 2023, ending his 14-year rule. He received the Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour and an honorary doctorate from Wuhan University during his presidency.
