Early life

Born on August 15, 1950 in Westminster, London, Princess Anne was the second child and only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. She was educated at Benenden School, a boarding school in Kent. From an early age, Anne developed a passion for horses, which would define her athletic career.

Career

Anne’s equestrian career peaked in 1971 when she won gold at the European Eventing Championships, followed by two silver medals in 1975. In 1976, she competed in the Montreal Olympics, becoming the first British royal to participate in the Games. Her royal duties include representing the Queen at events and supporting charities, notably Save the Children, which she has served for over fifty years. She became Princess Royal in 1987 and holds patronages in over 300 organizations, focusing on sport, science, and health in developing countries.

Personal life

Anne married Captain Mark Phillips in 1973; they had two children, Peter born 1977 and Zara born 1981. The couple separated in 1989 and divorced in 1992. Later that year, she married Commander now Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, whom she had met while he served as her mother’s equerry between 1986 and 1989. She has five grandchildren and maintains close ties with her siblings, including King Charles III.
