Ezra Pound was born on October 30, 1885, in Hailey, Idaho, the only child of Isabel Weston and Homer Loomis Pound. His father worked as a government official, and the family eventually moved to Pennsylvania. Pound attended the University of Pennsylvania and Hamilton College, where he developed a deep interest in literature and languages, shaping his future career as a poet and translator.

During World War II, Ezra Pound made several hundred anti-American radio broadcasts from Italy, earning him the label Tokyo Rose of Italy. After the war, he was arrested by American forces and returned to the United States to face treason charges. Physicians pronounced him mentally unfit for trial, and he was confined in a hospital for the criminally insane for 12 years. In 1958, the treason charges were dropped, and he was freed. He returned to Italy, where he continued writing poetry and translating ancient Chinese texts until his death in 1972.

Ezra Pound married Dorothy Shakespear on April 20, 1914. The couple had two children: Mary de Rachewiltz and Omar Pound. His personal life was affected by his controversial political activities during World War II, which led to his arrest and 12-year confinement. He was the son of Isabel Weston and Homer Loomis Pound.

Ezra Pound’s poetry and translations, along with his receipt of the Bollingen Prize and a Fellowship from the Academy of American Poets, form his legacy. But his reputation is complicated by his wartime activities and subsequent confinement. He died in Venice, Italy in 1972.
