Early life

October 3, 1969: Gwen Renée Stefani arrives in Fullerton, California, growing up in Anaheim as one of four children. Her father is of Italian descent and her mother has English, Irish, Scottish, German, and Norwegian ancestry. She and her brother Eric Stefani formed No Doubt when she was a teenager, and she moved from backing vocals to lead singer after the original lead, John Spence, committed suicide.

She mopped floors at a Dairy Queen and took classes at California State University, Fullerton. She also swam on her high school team and studied at Fullerton College and Cypress College.

Career

No Doubt’s breakthrough album Tragic Kingdom featured the vinyl red gown on its cover, which was later stolen from the Fullerton Museum Center in 2005. The band won Grammy Awards for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals in 2002 for Hey Baby and in 2003 for Underneath It All.

Stefani launched her solo career in 2004 with the album Love Angel Music Baby, inspired by Harajuku fashion. She received five Grammy nominations in 2005 for songs like Hollaback Girl and Rich Girl. She also launched the fashion lines L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers. On October 19, 2023, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard.

Personal life

Stefani dated No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal for seven years before marrying English rocker Gavin Rossdale on September 14, 2002 in London. They had three sons: Kingston b. 2006, Zuma b. 2008, and Apollo b. 2014. The couple divorced in 2016. Stefani later became engaged to country singer Blake Shelton on October 27, 2020 and they married.
