Who is Kate Hudson?

BIOGRAPHY

Kate Hudson — early life, career, personal life, and legacy.

Early life

Growing up in Los Angeles, Kate Hudson was surrounded by show business from the start. She was born on April 19, 1979, to Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson. She was raised by her mother and her mother’s longtime boyfriend, Kurt Russell, whom she considers her father. She attended Crossroads School for Arts & Sciences in Santa Monica, graduating in 1997. She danced and sang constantly as a child. Her family hoped she would attend New York University, but she chose to pursue acting professionally.

Career

Her breakthrough came in 2000 when she landed the role of Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous. She had been cast in a smaller role but begged to audition for Penny Lane after Sarah Polley dropped out. Her performance earned her the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress and an Academy Award nomination. Prior to that, she made her big-screen debut in Desert Blue 1998 and appeared in 200 Cigarettes 1999 and Gossip 2000. Later films include How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days 2003, The Skeleton Key 2005, and Bride Wars 2009. In 2003, she co-founded the production company Cosmic Entertainment with her mother Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, and brother Oliver Hudson. She also launched the activewear brand Fabletics in 2013.

Personal life

She married Chris Robinson, lead singer of the Black Crowes, on December 31, 2000. Kurt Russell walked her down the aisle. They had a son, Ryder Robinson born January 7, 2004, and divorced in 2007. She was engaged to Matt Bellamy of Muse from 2011 to 2014, with whom she had a son, Bing Bellamy born July 9, 2011. Since 2018, she has been in a relationship with Danny Fujikawa, with whom she has a daughter, Rani Fujikawa born October 2, 2018. They became engaged on September 13, 2021. She dislikes wearing makeup and loves vintage clothing and making jewelry.

Legacy

Almost Famous made her a leading lady in Hollywood, winning her a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination in 2001. In 2003, she was ranked #99 on Premiere’s Power 100 List, the youngest at age 24. She successfully sued the National Enquirer for libel in 2006, forcing them to admit fabrication. Her fashion line Fabletics has become a billion-dollar business. She continues to act and produce, with recent roles in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery 2022. She is remembered for her radiant smile and the line I’m a golden god! from Almost Famous.
