Norman Rockwell was born on February 3, 1894 in New York City to Anne Mary Hill Rockwell and Jarvis Waring Rockwell. He had a brother, Jarvis Waring Rockwell Jr. After Mamaroneck High School, he studied at the Art Students League of New York and Parsons School of Design, training that shaped his artistic talent.
Rockwell started as an illustrator, creating movie posters for films like The Magnificent Ambersons 1942 and The Song of Bernadette 1943. Rockwell married three times: Catherine Irene O’Connor from 1916 to 1930, Mary Rhodes Barstow from 1930 to 1959, and Mary Leete Punderson from 1961 until his death. He resided at the Hotel Des Artistes in Manhattan, New York. On November 8, 1978, he died of emphysema in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
