Early life

Kaputikyan was born on 20 January 1919 in Erivan, then part of the Transcaucasian SFSR, now Yerevan, Armenia. She pursued higher education at Yerevan State University, where she likely developed her literary voice. Growing up in the early Soviet period, she was immersed in Armenian culture. Her family background remains private, but her upbringing in the Armenian capital shaped her poetic identity.

Career

Kaputikyan earned the Stalin Prize, one of the Soviet Union’s highest literary honors. She also received the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, and many other Soviet decorations. Later in her career, she was awarded the Order of St. Mesrop Mashtots and the Order of Princess Olga, 3rd class, reflecting her continued influence. She was recognized as an Honored Worker of Culture of the Armenian SSR and an honorary citizen of Yerevan.
