Early life
At the age of 10, after watching the 1908 Circuit di Bologna, Enzo Ferrari decided to become a race car driver. Born on February 18, 1898, in Modena, Italy, his father Alfredo had a metal business. His formal education was minimal; during WWI, he was assigned to shoeing mules in the Alpine Artillery. Both his father and brother died in 1916 from the Italian flu outbreak, collapsing the family business. Ferrari himself survived the 1918 flu epidemic after a severe illness.
