Early life

The second son and third child born to Katherine and Joe Jackson in Gary, Indiana on October 15, 1953, Tito Jackson grew up in a musical household. He attended Fairfax High School and later Theodore Roosevelt High School, where his father Joe managed the Jackson 5. Tito played guitar and became integral to the family band, which dominated the Motown charts.

Career

Tito Jackson’s career began with the Jackson 5, who signed with Motown in 1969 and released hits like I Want You Back and ABC. After leaving Motown, the group renamed to The Jacksons and continued with CBS. Tito was the last Jackson to release a solo album, I Gotta Play, in 2003. He also acted in films such as An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn, released in 1997, and Glastonbury 2017, released in 2017. In 1997, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Jackson 5.

Personal life

Tito Jackson was the first member of the Jackson 5 to marry, wedding Dee Dee Jackson on June 16, 1972. They had three sons: Taj, born in 1973; Taryll, born in 1975; and TJ, born in 1978, who formed the group 3T. Dee Dee was murdered in 1994. Tito later married Mizuki Matsui Jackson in 2020. He had a passion for cars and often defended his brother Michael against allegations.

Legacy

Tito Jackson’s legacy is defined by his role in the Jackson 5, one of the most successful Motown groups. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, the group’s influence on pop music is immense.
