Walt Disney, born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, created Mickey Mouse in 1928 and produced the first synchronized sound cartoon, Steamboat Willie 1928. He won a record 22 competitive Academy Awards and opened Disneyland in 1955. His legacy includes classics like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 1937 and Mary Poppins 1964. Disney died on December 15, 1966 from complications of lung cancer.
