Amos Oz.

The son of Yehuda Arieh Klausner and Fania Musman, Amos Klausner was born on May 4, 1939 in Jerusalem, then part of the British Mandate of Palestine. His father was born in Odessa and raised in Vilnius, while his mother came from Rovno, Ukraine. Oz attended Gymnasia Rehavia and later studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Amos Oz published his first novel My Michael in 1974, later adapted into a film. International recognition came with Black Box 1993 and the memoir A Tale of Love and Darkness 2015, also adapted into a film. He published more than 18 books, including essay collections In the Land of Israel and Dear Zealots: Letters from a Divided Land, released a month before his death. Oz advocated for peace between Israel and the Palestinians and won the Israel Prize, Franz Kafka Prize, and Goethe Prize.

Amos Oz married Nily Zuckerman on April 5, 1960. They had three children: Fania Oz Salzberger, Galia Oz, and Daniel Oz. His parents were Fania Musman and Yehuda Arieh Klausner. His mother’s family background and family dynamics influenced his writing.

Amos Oz wrote A Tale of Love and Darkness, which introduced his life and work globally. His works have been translated into 45 languages and won over 25 awards, including the Israel Prize, Goethe Prize, and Princess of Asturias Literary Prize. He advocated for peace and explored Israeli identity in his writing.
